It was a night to remember for the Red Eagles after defeating Al Hilal of Sudan 3-0 in Matchday 6 of the group stage to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.
Al Ahly players put on a show in front of a packed-out Cairo Stadium to advance from the group stage.
Kahraba opened the score in the first half while Hussein El Shahat, who joined the game in the second half, added two more goals to secure the victory.
Searching for a goal to break the deadlock the Red Eagles pushed from the start with Mahmoud Kahraba, Percy Tau and Ahmed Abdelkader leading our attacks.
Kahraba tried his luck twice but his effort missed the target but we were close from opening the score with a spectacular support from our fans, who didn't stop singing and pushing us.
The breakthrough came when Kahraba pulled out his bag of tricks inside the area. Our striker received a pass from Abdelkader, and with one touch he had the ball under control and sent it past the goalkeeper to open the score.
Since that moment, we had total control over the game but the visitors had two dangerous chances from their counter-attacks.
In the second half, we did not show the same aggression and our coach, Marcel Koller, needed to make some amends.
Hussein El Shahat and Hamdy Fathy joined the game to replace Abdelkader and Mohamed Magdy Afsha.
These changes boosted our attacking line and after only two minutes Hussein El Shahat doubled the score for the Red Eagles.
El Shahat moved behind the defence and he was in the perfect position to receive a superb pass from Tau to add the second goal.
In the 81st minute, El Shahat completed his brace after receiving a beautiful cross from Marwan Attia and dribbled past two defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net to secure a vital win for the Red Eagles.
The Red Eagles qualified for the quarter-finals and we will know our opposition in the next round on Wednesday.
